Osho: All About Dynamic Meditation
Okay, so I am not going to lie, if you have never heard of OSHO or Dynamic Meditation this might seem a little strange. Have an open mind and try it before you knock it! This is the type of meditation you do when you need to let go of heavy shit. In this post, learn all about Dynamic Meditation!
Explanation of Dynamic Meditation
In the 1970s, Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh, commonly known as Osho developed a profound method of meditation. He created dynamic meditation. Dynamic meditation releases built-up energy and removes imprinted patterns in the body and mind. Osho created dynamic meditation with the ever-evolving society in mind.
Osho understood that society was shifting and a new method of meditation was in dire need. To explain further, the majority of us work with our heads more than our hands. This creates a blockage in creative energy as the hands are connected to the deepest part of the brain. Specifically, the part of the brain that allows the flow of energy from the head down to the hands then released out the body. It has been proven that those who regularly work with their hands have less anxiety, less tension, and better sleep. Keep in mind that the word ‘hands’ in this scenario translates to creativity.
Osho believed that creativity should be used throughout every aspect of life. He spoke about embracing creativity and allowing that energy to flow into everything you do. As a result, you are able to transfer that intense energy into something meaningful which promotes healthy energy flow instead of built-up agitation.
In our day and age, many of us work a full-time straight edge job that does not have much room for creativity. Therefore, we have an immense amount of energy that turns into irritability. Dynamic meditation is designed to release, or as Osho says ‘catharsis’, all that irritability.
The 5 Stages of Dynamic Meditation
This meditation is meant to be practiced early in the morning but if that is not an option work with what you have. As Osho explains it, “the whole of nature becomes alive, the night has gone, the sun is coming up and everything becomes conscious and alert.”
Traditionally, this meditation is done blindfolded as this deepens a meditative state.
First stage: 10 minutes
Breath chaotically through your nose. Let this breathing be intense, deep, and fast without rhythm or pattern. Concentrate on your exhalations as your body naturally takes care of the inhalations. Do this as fast and as hard as you can. Continue until you become the breathing. Move your body in any way that feels right as this builds up energy. Feel it building but don’t let go during the first stage.
Second stage: 10 minutes
Basically, explode! Let go of everything that does not serve a positive purpose in your life. Give yourself the freedom to express all that is a burden. Scream, shout, cry, jump, kick, shake, dance, sing, laugh; whatever you feel called to do. Keep your whole body moving so that your mind does not interfere with what is happening. Get it out! *Practice this stage with caution*
Third stage: 10 minutes
First, raise your arms high above your head. Next, jump up and down shouting, “Hoo! Hoo! Hoo!” as deeply as possible. Then, every time the flat of your feet touches the ground allow the sound to hammer deep into your sex center. Give this all you have. Completely exhaust yourself.
Fourth stage: 15 minutes
Freeze wherever you are and in whatever position you are in. Don’t arrange your body in any way, shape or form. The slightest movement will interrupt your energy flow. Simply, embrace everything that is happening to you at that moment.
Fifth stage: 15 minutes
Celebrate with music and dance! Lastly, carry your positivity with you throughout the day.
How often this meditation should be practiced
Dynamic meditation is meant to be used when needed. You may feel that you need to practice this every day for a certain length of time, or you may feel that this is an occasional exercise. Take note of your creativity level because it is in direct correlation with how often the use of this method is required. For example, if you feel the need to practice this technique regularly then it is wise to find a creative outlet.
Ultimately, listen to your body and do what feels right!
