5 Ways To Get Out of a Negative Mindset

We all have those days when our thoughts are destructive and it’s hard to shake them off. If you are currently in the cycle of a negative mindset then this is your time to change that! In this post, learn how to change your negative mindset to a more positive one!

What is negativity?

Simply, negativity is the expression of pessimism or criticism. Those who are negative tend to be critical, disagreeable, and skeptical. Being a negative person brings loneliness as most people choose to disengage from those with a bad attitude. Additionally, engaging with negative people causes feelings of anxiety and emotional drainage. Sometimes, the energy of negativity resides within you if you are holding a grudge against moments in the past. As I am sure you can imagine, living with negativity results in unhappiness.

Here are 5 ways to shift your negative mindset in order to live a more positive life with happy thoughts!

Put a stop to those negative thoughts

This is pretty obvious but put a stop to negative thoughts as soon as they come up. Not only should you put a stop to them but also replace them with positive thoughts as doing this rewires your brain so that eventually you only think positive thoughts…which is what you want!

Stoping your train of thought is different for everyone. Some people imagine a big red stop sign, others pinch themselves (lightly) or people like myself call themselves a ‘bitch’ out of love and respect for their wellbeing. After you stop that negative thought, be your own hype man and say something positive and happy! The following is exactly how I replace a negative thought with a positive one: “I look fat and….stop bitch!!! You look fucking fabulous!”.

If you have been thinking negatively your whole life this may be a tad bit difficult at first but don’t give up on yourself! When you realize that you have been thinking negatively and forgot to stop it the last thing you should do is beat yourself up over it…all you’re doing is adding fuel to the fire. When you miss a negative thought simply move the fuck on and intend to do better next time.

Gratitude

Gratitude is the emotion of being thankful, showing appreciation, and returning kindness. Being grateful is a beautiful and harmonious way to live as it attracts more love, happiness, and abundance into your life. When you are grateful it opens up your eyes and heart to acknowledge your blessings. Basically, being grateful stops negative shit from happening thus stopping negative thoughts from popping up!

Every day take time to say what you are grateful for and fully feel the emotions that come with it. It is important to vocalize your gratitude as hearing yourself say what you feel attracts a more powerful feeling. You can do this first thing in the morning, before bed, in the car, etc. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter when you do it just as long as you fucking do it and stay consistent!

Laugh

I know this is cheesy but having a good hard laugh regularly really does make a difference in your mindset. It has been proven that laughter strengthens your immune system, boosts mood, lessens pain, and protects you from the effects of stress.  Laughter releases endorphins and as you very well may know, “endorphins make you happy”. Endorphins are the body’s natural feel-good chemicals, by the way.

I literally make myself laugh when I am feeling upset, sad, or irritated. Pop onto TikTok, Instagram, or Twitter and watch funny videos…some of the best laugh attacks I have had were because of random videos I found on those apps. Put on a funny movie, TV show or stand up comedy special – do what you need to do to laugh it out!

Surround yourself with positive people

You know that saying, “tell me who your friends are, and I’ll tell you who you are”? Yeah, take that saying seriously because it is on point. When you surround yourself with negative people who complain about anything and everything that shit rubs off on you…even when that’s not your intention. Surround yourself with positive people who see the beauty in everything…that’s the type of shit you want rubbing off on you.

Weed out those who do not serve a positive purpose in your life and look for those who are positive. Go to a yoga class or a group meditation session – you are sure to find some cool and happy people there!

Meditation

Simply, meditation is a mental exercise that strengthens your awareness, mindfulness, and higher consciousness. Typically, meditation is practiced to help deepen the understanding of life and its transcendent forces. Meditation can also be practiced to reduce stress, relieve anxiety, and improve emotional wellbeing. Regular practice of meditation has been scientifically proven to reduce age-related memory loss, help fight addictions, improve sleep, help control pain, and decrease blood pressure.

Since meditation improves your overall wellbeing, it also improves the quality of your thoughts! Meditate daily so that you are always at peace and positive!

    This was really helpful! This has taught me how to look out for negative thoughts when they come into my head, and when their around like (people). I really need to practise doing more of these tips- so far, so good! ✨♡
