4 New Moon Rituals You Need To Do!
The new moon is a powerful time for new beginnings and renewed energy. Make the most of this lunar phase with these 4 bad-ass rituals!
Intro to Moon Magick
In many cultures throughout the years, it is believed that practicing rituals during different phases of the moon can bring about enormous change – this is called ‘moon magick’. This is because Lunar (moon) energy represents feminine energy as does our intuitive energy. As a result, when we connect and align these two energies, we can open a pathway for powerful manifestations to occur with ease!
New Moon
The new moon is the start of the moon cycle. During this time, the moon is not visible as the sun is shining on the side of the moon that we can’t see from Earth. The new moon represents new beginnings, renewal, and planting seeds thus this type of energy frequency is the strongest and easiest to tap into during this time. This means it is the perfect time to begin a new habit or take action on something you have been putting off.
During this phase, take advantage of the renewing energy and work with it so that your manifesting AND spiritual journey are much more effective!
4 Rituals to do During the New Moon
1. Cleanse Your Space
Since the new moon represents new beginnings this is a great time to cleanse yourself and your space for renewed energy. Take this time to smudge yourself and your space to remove unwanted energies. The term smudging refers to burning herbs and plants. The idea is that the smoke from the herbs and plants attaches itself to negative energy. As the smoke clears it takes the negative energy with it, releasing it into another space where it will be regenerated into positive energy.
How To Smudge
First, choose which herb or plant you want to burn. Sage, palo santo, lavender and rosemary are most commonly used for smudging. Next, lite an end on fire of your chosen herb. Let it smoke while either surrounding yourself with the smoke or letting the smoke drift into every nook and cranny of the space you are cleansing. Allow the herb or plant to smoke out on its own. Once it has accomplished its intended task the smoke will cease on its own.
Sage clears all energy, negative and positive, which creates a clean slate to fill with positive energy and intentions.
Palo Santo is wonderful for purifying and bringing in positive thoughts, energies, and intentions. Tip: Perfect to use to renew positivity after a sage cleansing.
Lavender is best used for psychic protection, happiness, healing, and tranquility.
Rosemary is a powerful cleanser for your home and aura.

2. Intention Setting
Again, since the new moon represents new beginnings and renewal – this is the perfect time for intention setting. An intention is similar to a goal or purpose; the difference is that an intention carries the “why” behind the goal. Intentions should be said, thought, and felt in the present tense. For example, instead of “I want to exercise and eat healthily” it should be “I feel healthy and vital” – the reason why you want to exercise and eat healthily is to feel healthy and vital…THAT is what makes the intention.
Simple 5-minute Intention Setting Ritual
Every new moon, do this simple intention-setting ritual: Start by cleansing yourself and your space. Next, center or ground yourself in order to deeply connect with your higher consciousness to really know what it is you want to achieve. Finally, either write or say aloud your intentions and really feel the feelings of having achieved it NOW.
3. Take Action
Since the new moon represents new beginnings it is the perfect time to start something new! Begin a new lifestyle change, attitude, hobby, or challenge. Whatever you have been meaning to start this is the time to start! Begin something new with a positive and aligned attitude so that this change will stick – timing is everything and the new moon is the perfect time to take the next step!
4. Tarot Reading
It is a good idea to do a quick tarot reading during the start of the new moon phase to help guide you in the right direction for the energy cycle about to go down! This will align you with the right energies to keep you grounded, focused, and guided.
These are the three questions I ask my cards: 1) What I need to focus on during the coming lunar cycle? 2) How can I keep my energy balanced for the coming cycle? 3) What do I need to let go of?
