Having a balanced and strong root chakra is vital for your overall well being. If you have been feeling uneasy, unmotivated, and lazy a blocked root chakra is most likely to blame. In this post, discover 3 ways to balance and heal this very important chakra!
what are chakras?
First and foremost, if you aren’t familiar with chakras here is a quick explanation!
To break it down, the Sanskrit word Chakra means wheel or disk. In spirituality, this term refers to wheels of spiritual energy located throughout the body. There are seven chakra points aligned along the spine. Starting from the base of the spine and going up to the crown of the head. It is believed that chakras reflect how consciousness is divided to manage different aspects of life. For instance, each chakra emits a different energy frequency that is in direct correlation to your organ function, immune system, and emotions. Therefore, being aware and in tune with your chakras can drastically change your overall health and wellness.

the root chakra
The first chakra, the root or Muladhara, is located at the base of your spine. This chakra is associated with the color red and the element of earth. When your root chakra is open and balanced you feel grounded, secure, and fucking fearless!
The health of your root chakra heavily affects your immune system, reproductive organs, pelvis, adrenals, spine, bones, teeth, anus, bladder, blood, circulation, tailbone, legs, and feet. Some emotional suggestions that your root chakra is blocked is low self-esteem, anxiety, anger, restlessness, aggressiveness, need to control, arrogance, cravings, addictions, and low energy. If you’re having issues with any of these areas, it can be an indication of a root chakra imbalanced.

1. grounding
Simply put, the spiritual term grounding refers to energetically connecting to the earth so that you feel safe and at ease. In detail, grounding is a technique that guides the connection and alignment with yourself and mother nature which brings a sense of safety and calm. As a result, being properly grounded increases your mental, physical and emotional health.
The best way to achieve grounding is to step outside barefoot and physically be with mother earth herself, this is called earthing. Earthing is an extremely easy and effective method to use, especially if you are beginning your grounding journey. In fact, connecting with the earth this way has the ability to bring you back to a balanced and neutral state. To further explain, the earth’s surface contains negative ions that make their way into your body and release free radicals that have been accumulating.
To do this, simply step outside barefoot onto nature such as a park, forest (just don’t get lost!), or your backyard! Next, enjoy the fresh air in your lungs. Then, embrace the dirt, grass, and leaves beneath your feet or surrounding your body (if you’re laying down). Lastly, just be. Be with mother earth fully. Acknowledge her beauty. Be in the moment with her. Allow yourself to connect and align with the earth’s energy.

2. eat the right food and move around
What you eat has a huge impact on how you feel, this is a known fact – shitty foods are going to make you feel sluggish and drained while fresh healthy food makes you feel energized. What many people don’t know is that the food you eat also contributed to the health of your chakras. For a healthy and balanced root chakra add in more red foods such as tomatoes, strawberries, apples, pomegranates, and cherries. Also, add to your diet anything that roots itself like carrots, potatoes, parsnips, radishes, onions, and garlic.
It is also extremely important to move your body around in ways that will help strengthen and open your root chakra. Going outside for a walk or run, yoga, and dance are great activities to help connect you with your root chakra!
3. visualization and meditation
First and foremost, it is important to understand that meditation is NOT meant to clear your thoughts. In fact, it is the opposite. In order to meditate, you must focus and ponder on something. Think of the word meditation as a synonym for the word concentration.
To meditate on your root chakra simply concentrate on it and visualize a red swirling ball of energy at the base of your spine. At the same time focus on fill that ball with feelings of grounding, security, and balance!

Quick tip: Crystals amplify your focus for deeper meditation. Choose a crystal that is significant to what you are meditating on, in this case, healing your root chakra. During meditation, hold the crystal(s) in your hand, place it on your body or place it nearby. Envision a white light of healing energy coming from the crystal and going directly to your root chakra. Breathe in its energy and allow it to go deep within. Crystals such as Red Jasper, Tiger’s Eye, and Garnet are excellent to use and are my personal favorite.
